Well, if you are one of these people, you had to wait for the results like I did!

On a side note; a special congrats go out to one of you favorite stats geek and his new fiancee: Hurt Reynolds proposed to Mercyless in a heart felt and loving fashion the only way Hurty could. Down on one knee he professed his love and asked her to marry him. It was absolutely beautiful.

BTW: She said yes and a huge cheer came from their biggest family of roller derby girls and boys from around the world.
DAMN, I've been to 2 derby proposals and 2 derby weddings. I [heart] the roller derby familes and the tight knit community it has become.

I'd also like to thank Viagrra Falls from Rose City who put's up with me every time I come to Portland. She rocks! It was so great to see old friends and new ones here this past weekend and those of you went here...I sure missed seeing you again. I look forward to hopefully getting to Nationals next year in Philly and if not there is always Regionals next September.
See you at RollerCon 09
xoxo Sour Cherry

Congratulations to the Gotham City Roller Girls on their 2008 National Champiionship Win!
and a special heart of Congratulations to Hurt Reynolds and Mercyless!

Derby News from all over

Well, I hope Raven's nerves calm and her arm is healing up for tomorrow's game for the Santa Cruz Rollergirls last game of the season vs the Bay Area Derby Girls.

The Big news over at the Derby News Network and in WFTDA realm, of course, is the Fall Brawl tomorrow down in Ft Wayne. Hammer City is on the Non-WFTDA line-up. I hope to get word on how they do after.

In other derby news, The Sault rollergirls in Northern Ontario are looking for new practice space - icing down all the arenas for hockey is a Canadian rite of passage as the cold bite of fall hits the wind, but for derby leagues all over Canada and the northern US, it means a hunt for an indoor place to practice in the winter. How can you come out swinging in the spring for your season, if you can't skate for 7 months of the year? Good luck to them, and if you're in that area and know of a place, Please contact Elora Nelson at (705) 253-2044 or email purple__mascara@hotmail.com check the website:

Next week, MTLRD New Skidz on the Block will be taking on the Brooklyn Bombshells down in Gotham City. If you're on Facebook, Here is the event page. If not, brownpapertickets has tickets, or check out the Gotham Girls site. I haven't heard from Georgia W Tush since she went out on tour with the band, but I hope she's playing and let's us know how that one goes.

Way out in October, watch for a Skate of the Dead, hosted by the Forest City Roller Girls in London, ON. The facebook event says it's October 18. The Forest City Roller Girls website is under construction, so I'm looking out for this league, as they have been playing hard for their first season in 2008. Next year should rock in Ontario and Canada with all the leagues coming up.

In Nia Capps news, I'm in the gym 5 days, count that again, 5 days per week for a 45 minute workout every lunch hour, and I'm skating on the weekends (or if rainy, hiking). I am on an 8 month journey to hit the GTA Rollergirls in April when I get ready to slide a little back east into Mississauga and Toronto area, ready to kick ass. Hopefully, I'll still get to a couple of practices with HCRG in the interim, or with GTA. Slapallonia may hook me up.

Everything is going great. Ok ok, so I had a bad reaction to some Novocaine after a dentist visit yesterday and today I am resting because my face is numb and tingly and I'm nauseated. But shut up, I am doing AWESOME!

In Derby Luv news, I have a new short sleeved Derby Luv T-shirt, along with a long-sleeved Derby Luv T-Shirt on their way to keep me Derby Luv style for my around towns, and a big shout out and thanks to everyone that has decided to wear their Derby Luv this year!

On my project list I have a product review for some derby-inspired toys, and I'm waiting to see if I can get an interview with the derby girl that won $35k on a game show. Do you know what I am talking about? Hmmm, a derby trivia quiz for your weekend!

Oh yeah, and a fellow Southern Belle, an Atlanta Rollergirl was chosen as a skater for "Whip It!" - a body double stunt woman skater I should say, as a body double for Eve. That is awesome! I wonder who I could body double for... hmmmm Wynona Judd? Screw that, by April it'll be for Xena. ;)

Happy Friday, Derby Luvvers. Saturday always bring Roller Derby!

Montreal Roller Derby attacks Boston Derby Dames' mascot

Last week I attended a Boston Derby Dames bout featuring Maine Roller Derby's Portland Authorities, and Gotham Girl's Bronx Gridlock. It was a double header with double the Dames. Part of the Boston Massacre played the Maine ladies for a 30 minute bout, and then the Boston Massacre took on Bronx Gridlock. And wow, have those BDD's really improved since the first and only time I saw one of their intra-league bouts in '06.

During the first game the feisty Port Authorities started off strong and took the Boston ladies in the beginning jams. Shortly after Boston caught on and gave the PA's an ass whooping. Although I'd say it was a respectable ass whoopin', and considering MRD is not as experienced as BDD's they were amazing! I was really impressed with their team..and it just so happens that my team will be playing them in September. I managed to take a few mental notes for future reference. Unfortunately, my mental notes were soon forgotten after many plastic cups of crummy Bud Light. The final score was 81-31 for the Dames. Props to MRD for playing hard, and props to BDD for being rad!

I was convinced that the Massacre would be exhausted after playing hard for 30 mins already. Apparently I was wrong, because the Dames were as strong as ever for the following two periods. From the beginning, BM had a strong lead over Bronx Gridlock (might I add, one of my favourite team themes in all of roller derby!). Both teams are mighty strong, but BM managed to keep up with the blocks, hits, and amazing jams throughout the whole game. The end result was 116-49 for Boston. Definitely an exciting sixty minutes of roller derby.

Now to get to the most important issue here. MTLRD loved pinchy the BDD crab. We're not sure if that's even his name, but it will be anyway for the time being.

The next sequence of events will be explained through photos.

MTLRD spots their prey:

MTLRD sneak up and attack their victim. Note the look of fear in his eyes.

MTLRD threaten the poor lobsters life with his own weapon:

Instead of going through with the plotted kidnapping, MTLRD settles for a group shot. All was well again!

will be accepting donations...

my power adapter for my macbook recently broke, and a new one costs 80 #$%@&* dollars! therefore, if you have one to discard, please send it to me.

i recently just went to new york to skate with thegotham girls! they are great gals, and run an excellent practice. i am also very jealous of their sport court floor, and warehouse.

i would LOVE to have warehouse space. if only all leagues could have such accessibility to a great practice space all the time. my league practices outside of montreal at a roller skating rink. the space is great! although the rink is often coated in dirt, lame teenagers work at the rink, our practice times are limited, and they don't really want us there.

sometimes you just want to feel wanted. y'know what i'm sayin?

once you find a place though, i assume that it could be stressful. your leagues monthly expenditures would increase greatly, hydro fees are always a bitch (in canada anyway..). and security issues could also be problematic.

so in the end, is a warehouse worth it?

i think so. the only thought that continues to pop back into my head is, access to skating indoors, ALL OF THE TIME.

you southern ladies have it good. today in montreal it went down to about 6 degrees (i've seen MUCH worse!), and i froze my lil toe stoppers off. anyone who can skate outdoors all year round, has it made!

don't worry about me though..because next week i will be in san diego for the B&T training camp! hell yeah!

anyway, i'm rambling and need to go to bed.

farewell roller derby enthusiasts,

georgia w tush
