Halloween Skate in Paris

Ever wanted to get a zombie-on-wheels' perspective of a European city? You are in luck! There is a 3-hour group skate scheduled on Halloween night at 10pm through the streets of the Paris.

In general, the city's Friday night skate, which celebrates its 10th anniversary this year, has become a staple of Paris nightlife. Roller-skaters began meeting for night rides in the early 1990s without legal permission. Nowadays, "Friday Night Fever" is billed as the largest group skate in the world. Depending on the season, it attracts up to 25,000 skaters, supervised by 150 staffers, policeman and "Protection Civile" vehicles. These ensure that the route, lined with cheering pedestrians and camera flashes, is clear for the 1.5 km-long procession.

Where: Place Raoul Dautry in the 14th arrondissement, between the Montparnasse office tower and the Paris-Montparnasse train station.

When: Every Friday, all year round, except in case of rain (although a drizzle will usually be ignored). Departure from Montparnasse at 10 p.m.; return at 1 a.m.

In other unrelated semi-quasi-sorta-although-not-roller-derby Halloween news, I'm happy to report that Voices in my Hand has returned from the dead with all new comics.
